Example 1 - Digital Photography Major

Our world is rapidly expanding through the use of technology, increasing the demand for digital professionals. As a digital photographer, you can deliver to companies and individuals worldwide the images they need for print, film, or the Internet. Your education is the key to a profitable career. Not only will it prepare you to use the latest equipment and most powerful software, a degree opens doors.

A major in digital photography gives you first-hand knowledge and experience with creative tools used in studios and on location. Your classes will include the basics of photography and design giving you the foundation you need to develop your artistic style. It will also give you an overview of equipment, how to use it, and which equipment is appropriate when shooting a variety of subjects such as portraits, nature, architecture, and action shots.

Catering your photographs to a client's needs by manipulating the composition is a necessary skill every digital photographer must have. Learning Adobe Photoshop software is standard in any digital photography curriculum because of how powerful and seemingly limitless it is in its capabilities. Changing the color saturation, exaggerating a feature, scaling an image to fit a specific space, and adding new material to a picture are only a few options Photoshop offers.

You will learn how to present a project or finished piece with print-quality material ready for publication. By the time you receive your degree in digital photography, you will have created an impressive portfolio to start your career.

Example 2 - Certificate in Graphic Design

Graphic design builds on your talent as an artist by adding the skills necessary to use that talent in the job market. A graphic design course will show you the needs of our evolving electronic age, train you in the rules of commercial design, and help you know when it's right to break those rules. You'll learn the computer software and equipment standard to the industry, as well as design techniques specific to print, games, animation, and web development.

A certificate in graphic design gives you the foundation you will need for an entry-level position in today's market. There are a number of benefits to obtaining a certificate over an Associate or Bachelor Degree. A certificate program can be completed within a year, while an Associate Degree is usually a two-year commitment and a Bachelor Degree takes at least four years. The cost of your education is also a fraction of what you'd spend for an Associate or Bachelor Degree. Most importantly, employers and clients worldwide accept a certificate as valid and accomplished training.

Your coursework includes training in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, typography, design principles, how to develop your portfolio, and knowledge of legal issues like copyrights, to name a few. Your classes allow you to develop your style as a graphic designer before you submit your first résumé, and will equip you with the business knowledge you need to get started in the industry. Graphic design is a well-paid profession. With your certificate in hand, you will be prepared to start a successful career.
